It’s girl’s night in, and of course, the one and only topic arises: Guys. Immediately, opinions and vivid commentary fill the living room, touching on precisely what to look for in a guy and what exactly to avoid. Girls may come across as picky, narrow-minded or shallow when it comes to choosing a soul mate, but honestly, can you blame the girl for having standards? So all you guys out there, if you’re interested in becoming Isla Vista’s latest Lady’s Man, you better listen up [and take notes].

5. Sense of Style - Now guys, don’t take this the wrong way. It doesn’t necessarily mean having the freshest kicks, whitest tees or hottest whip, but it’s the trace of originality about you that sets you apart from the rest. It’s definitely a plus when guys can pull off the look of daytime Mr. Muscles in their tank tops and ride off on their road bike or keep it classy in a vintage-looking vest come nightfall. The point here is that having a flare of external “uniqeness” is something every girl can dig.

4. Toned / Athletic Build – Not to be confused with the body of “The Governator” in his prime, but a strong, firm physique is quite the catch. Women enjoy nuzzling up to a chiseled upper-bod, or linking arms with a man with muscles. But guys, here’s the secret: hitting the gym isn’t the only ingredient to owning such desirable definition. Eating healthy and cutting back on the fatty foods makes you that much closer to becoming one serious chick magnet. So remember guys, the next time you find yourself at a Taco Bell drive-thru at two in the morning and skipping out on your morning visit to the gym, the only thing you’ll be kissing that night is your chance with that pretty girl goodbye.

3. Sense of Humor – Guys: isn’t it one of the greatest feelings in the world to know that you were able to make that special girl laugh (and you’re positive she was laughing because she thought your joke was funny, not because she pitied your awkwardness)? Doesn’t it feel amazing to put a smile on a girl’s face because she’s intrigued by the way your funny side is portrayed so naturally? You betcha! Well that’s because girls love it when guys can squeeze a good chuckle out them and keep that smile going 24/7 in a smooth, witty way. So if you encounter another uncomfortable “ha-ha..” from the next chick, something’s wrong.

2. Well-Mannered – This may be the most obvious of them all, although most often overlooked. When it comes to being the perfect gentleman, it can be done so in a lot less effort than expected. All that is really asked of you is to have all parts of your brain engaged and essentially, the presence of your common sense. This can be broken down into simpler terms of course: open doors for your lady – make her feel special, be a good listener and never interrupt when she is speaking, always offer to pay for things – especially because she deserves to be treated out, and complement her whenever possible because those are the bonus points you don’t want to miss out on… trust me.

1. Passion and Ambition – Lastly, a sense of direction and having goals to work towards are ultimately what makes a guy most attractive. Individuals that posses a drive to succeed in something not only appear desirable to the average observer, but guys who are endowed with this nature are utterly irresistible to the ordinary girl. There is no bigger turn off than to have a guy perfectly satisfied with a lifestyle filled with mundanity and mediocrity.

So guys, remember… this list is to be treated as mere guidelines and not as a testament to every women’s likes and dislikes in a man. If the chick you’re with totally digs you for the way you are – and for some reason – all of your characteristics fail to make this list, then I commend her for her taste in uniquely free-spirited men. So, if I were you in this situation, I’d throw this list in the recycling bin and stay exactly the way you are. But as for all the other men out there who have not been graced with such good fortune, I’d laminate this article and treat it like the holy bible – or better yet, just keep these helpful hints handy.
