After 10 years of discussion, there is finally a proposal for an IV skate park that’s gaining attention. The planned site for the skate park is Estero Park, and would also include a basketball, soccer, and community center complex. The estimated cost for this project is between $600,000 – $800,00. The Isla Vista Recreation and Park District plans to fund the project primarily through Proposition 40 and other fundraising efforts.
The main opposition to an IV skate park are residents that live close to Estero park. Concerned with noise issues, they believe the skate park would be better suited and well accepted downtown in a non-resident area. They also suggest it is advantageous for local commerce if the skate park is located downtown.
Most people seem too agree that a downtown location is ideal. However, some argue the downtown location limits the availability of the park to Isla Vista youth, and will lead to further delays in this already drawn out project.
IV or downtown? What do you think? Sound off in the comment section below!

Yaa for a skatepark but let’s put it where it will be used by skaters and then those skaters and their families will also help our town! Is 2 blocks really a big differnece for planning?
